Misfit Toys is a locally owned vintage toy and collectibles store at 3511 Houston Avenue in the Houston Heights, owned by Daniel, a Heights and Northside native. Since 2016, it has grown from one man’s lifelong collecting habit into one of Houston’s best-known toy stores, a place where collectors from across the city, and visitors from around the world, come to find the toys they grew up with.
Our story
Daniel was born and raised in the Houston Heights and on the city’s Northside, and he has been collecting toys for nearly as long as he can remember. As a teenager, he discovered garage sales and started collecting in earnest, and he never really stopped. Long before there was a storefront, Daniel was buying and selling toys at flea markets around Houston, with Star Wars always at the center of the table.
Eventually he left a career in oil and gas to turn that passion into a business. In June 2016, Misfit Toys opened its first storefront in the Heights. As the inventory grew, so did the store, and in 2023 we moved to 3511 Houston Avenue to make room for it all. In 2025 we purchased the building, a historic Heights property, and brought everything under one roof. Today our shelves hold thousands of toys, from 1970s Star Wars to modern designer sofubi, and we employ about 15 people who are as passionate about collecting as we are.
In 2026, ten years after opening, we added Lost and Found Media, a store for movies on physical media, inside the same building. Next, we plan to renovate the building’s upstairs to give Lost and Found Media a home of its own.
Our mission
We want Misfit Toys to be a safe and welcoming place for every collector, whatever you collect and however you got into it. Kids buying their first figure, longtime collectors hunting a grail, families settling a loved one’s estate, and visitors passing through Houston are all treated the same way: with honesty, respect, and genuine enthusiasm.
We see ourselves as ambassadors for Houston’s collecting community. We connect collectors with each other, help newcomers learn the hobby, and make sure people visiting the city have a place to find something special. When families trust us with a loved one’s collection, we make sure those pieces reach collectors who will cherish them for years to come.
Trusted with Houston’s biggest collections
When a serious collection comes up for sale, it often comes to us. We have bought single collections worth well into six figures, and we regularly haul collections away by the U-Haul truckload. We’ve traveled from Washington State to Washington, D.C., and nearly everywhere in between, to buy collections. Whether it’s one figure or an entire house full of toys, we have the experience, the staff, and the buying power to handle it, and to pay fairly for it.
